Simply Accounting Corrupt or Damaged File Repair/Recovery - Data Repair
Standard Illegal Operation
Simply Accounting
Problem: An "Illegal Operation" error message occurs when trying to open the
program or intermittently after using the program.
This problem is often due to a conflict with your display adapter. In some
cases, it may be a conflict with an HP Laserjet printer driver.
Two possible solutions are:
- Turn down the Hardware Acceleration Slider. (basic)
- Upgrade your Display Driver / Printer Driver
Detailed Step by Step Guide through the Four Possible Solutions:
FOR Windows 95/, 98 and Windows ME Users:
1. Turn down the Hardware Acceleration Slider. (basic)
- Turn Down Hardware Acceleration Slider,
Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel,
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs,
- You will need to create a startup disk in the event that you encounter
problems with your computer after changing your computer settings. Please
have a blank diskette ready and click on the Startup Disk tab,
- Insert the blank diskette and click Create Disk, then follow the
instructions on the screen. Close the Add/Remove Programs Properties window,
- In the Control Panel, double-click System,
- Click the Performance tab,
- Click the Graphics button,
- The Hardware acceleration slider has four settings (Full, Most,
Basic, and None). Move the slider to the second setting from the beginning
(Basic),
- Click Apply, then OK, and Close. When prompted to Restart your computer,
click Yes,
- It is also possible that one or more of your
"terminate-and-stay-resident" programs are conflicting with Simply
Accounting, or taking up too much memory. To test for these possibilities,
do the following:
- Hold down the Ctrl + Alt + Del (only once to get the Close Programs
screen)
- In the Close program screen you will need to End Task everything
except for Explorer, Systray and Simply Accounting and then try running
Simply Accounting.
If you have followed all the steps above and you are still encountering
the Illegal operation error message, then proceed with step2:
FOR Microsoft Windows 2000 User’s:
Go to Start - Settings-Control Panel.
- Click on the Display option.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Click on the Advanced button.
- Click on the Troubleshooting tab.
- The Hardware acceleration slider has six settings. Move the
slider to the second setting from the beginning (Basic).
- Click Apply, then OK, and Close. When prompted to Restart your computer,
click Yes.
If you have followed all the steps above and you are still encountering
the Illegal operation error message, then proceed with the next step.
2. Upgrade the Display Driver / Printer Driver
The error message, "General Protection Fault in Module DIBENG.DLL", may be
encountered by clients who are using an ATI display driver or an HP LaserJet
5si printer driver.
Updated ATI display drivers are available throught the ATI Technical
Support Web site at
http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/

If you have followed all the steps above and you are still encountering
the Illegal operation error message, then proceed with the next step:
Go to Start–Shut Down–Restart in MS-Dos Mode
- At the DOS prompt (c:\ >), type win /d:m
- Start Simply Accounting, if Simply Accounting does or does not work,
click start, shutdown and restart the computer, then proceed with the next
step.
Go to Start – Settings – Control Panel
- Double-click System then click the Device Manager tab
- Click the + sign beside Display adapters and Monitors
